Hajj Vaccine and Travel Jab

Why Hajj Vaccine is Important ?

Prevention of Life-Threatening Diseases
The Saudi Arabian government mandates specific vaccinations to protect pilgrims from severe infections like meningococcal disease, influenza, and polio. These diseases can spread rapidly in crowded environments.

Compliance with Saudi Arabia’s Health Regulations
To obtain a Hajj visa, proof of vaccination is required. Without the necessary vaccines, entry into the country may be denied, preventing pilgrims from performing Hajj.

Protection Against Respiratory Infections
Influenza and pneumonia are common during Hajj due to long hours of physical exertion, crowded conditions, and climate changes. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of severe respiratory illnesses.

Reduces the Risk of Epidemics
Large gatherings increase the potential for outbreaks of contagious diseases. Vaccinations help in controlling the spread and protecting global public health.

Personal and Community Safety
Vaccinating yourself not only protects you but also fellow pilgrims, your family, and your community when you return home.

Recommended Hajj Vaccine

Influenza Vaccine – Strongly recommended to prevent seasonal flu.
COVID-19 Vaccine – Mandatory to reduce the risk of severe infections.
Polio Vaccine – Required for pilgrims from certain countries.
Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, and Pneumococcal Vaccines – Recommended for added protection.

What WHO International Certificate of Vaccination

The WHO International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) is an official document issued to travelers who receive mandatory vaccinations, such as the meningococcal vaccine required for Hajj pilgrims. This certificate serves as proof of immunization and is recognized globally by health authorities, including the Saudi Ministry of Health.

Generally, the risk for travelers is regarded as relatively low. However, travelers visiting remote areas and backpackers who spend prolonged periods of time outdoors have a higher risk of infection, as do children.
